Overcoming Loneliness by: Beth Landrum

Writer: Mary FarmerMary Farmer

Every trip I make to Wyola Montana for ministry work is always a new experience. This year was no exception. This years lesson for me was on being alone.

I have never lived Alone. I went from my Momma and Daddy's house to my first husband and I buying a home. We then moved back to my Momma's house after Dad passed away. My next move from that house was to be with my present husband of 31 years.

After camp and the Women's Conference concluded an

d everyone went on their way I was alone. 1300 miles away from family and there I was. There were some issues we had to work thru and I felt such a struggle there. I live in a beautiful travel trailer on a piece of land with great landlords, but, I was alone. During that time I took care of anything I was needed for and then I returned home. I was consumed with loneliness.

What I did during that time was to open my Bible and read it. I would turn the page and feel the breeze of the page and hear the crinkle sound of the turning page. I would sleep and wake up with a song on my mind. I pressed into God and His words. I believe He allowed me to feel loneliness to appreciate the moment I was in. I had wonderful friends who breathed life back into me. They loved me and gave me what I needed.

God's creations were my medicine. The mountains and streams, the grass and sky were my connection to Him. I have been Alone in a crowded room. That is a suffocating kind of alone. The kind that hurts to breathe in and fully exhale. You know the kind of alone you just want to run from. Where do you run too. It can be scary. Don't succumb to that loneliness. It can take you places God never intended for you to go. Turn on praise music, kick of your shoes and put you feet on the earth. Read from the Bible, not your phone or tablet but a real book. It will make a difference. Pray for God to fill every empty lonley place in your heart and mind.

God's words are like water. The more you drink of the cool sweet water the more you want. His word is the same thing. The more Amen read the more you want to read. He is the living water. He is the missing link . It is my prayer tonight that you ask Him to fill you with the desire to seek Him. That all the loneliness will be diminished with ever praise song you hear and sing. That he leads you to the passages you need to hear. Amen and Amen I hope you will dig in and dig deep.
